‘The Badger’ to screen at Maryland filmfest

The Maryland filmfest in US is to host Iran’s ‘The Badger’.

The Maryland Film Festival (MdFF) in the US is set to play host to Iranian feature film ‘The Badger’.

Kazem Mollaee’s feature will be among the competition titles at the 23rd edition of the American film event.

The movie starring Vishka Asayesh is the story of a 40-year-old woman named Soudeh Sharifzadegan, who has faced a difficult challenge in her life at the time her second marriage nears.

Soudeh is a successful business woman running a money-making bakery. Some days away from her marriage, her kid is kidnapped and for his release she is asked to pay king’s ransom.

In addition to Asayesh, the flick's cast list includes Hassan Majouni, Mehraveh Sharifinia, Behnoush Bakhtiyari, Reza Behboudi and Gohar Kheirandish.

‘The Badger’ has already been screened at a number of global events, including the Shanghai International Film Festival in China and the Austin Film Festival in the US.

The MdFF is an annual five-day event that presents films and video works from all over the world. Each year the festival screens approximately 50 feature films and 80 short films of all varieties.

“MdFF works to foster the exchange of ideas between artists and audience while providing a voice to visionary and truly independent filmmakers and a launch pad for their films,” said at the event’s official website.

This year’s edition of the fest is slated for May 19-27.
